Throughout the movie, I thought everything was very ambiguous because most of the scenes were too dark to find out what was happening. All the action scenes were happening so quickly in the dark, I was not sure which character was getting shot or wounded or losing. Rather than enjoying the action scenes, I was busy figuring out which one is the character I was looking for. Secondly, actors often murmured a lot with North Korean accent that I could not understand the details of the movie. In addition, there were too many languages within one movie: German, South Korean, North Korean, and English. Although it is praiseworthy that actors remembered all the lines in different languages, actors’ weird accents really bothered me a lot and it made me harder to concentrate on the movie. Lastly, there were so many scenes that were not explained. The movie felt as if it was only touching the surface of the story and not explaining in depth. Though some action scenes were pretty cool, I did not like the movie overall because the whole movie was too ambiguous in dark scenes, with languages that were hard to understand. And the most importantly, the story itself was very boring.

I was very intrigued by the character development of Dong and Pyo.
At first both were very mysterious and ruthless agents, obediently following orders from a higher authority, but as the story progressed, Pyo became a very emotionally complex character. Although at first he was cold and emotionless towards his wife, all of a sudden he becomes emotionally invested in assuring his and his wife's future, as well as his unborn child. Dong on the other hand became a mysterious figure to a sadistic psychopath carrying out his father's agenda.

I found it ironic that North Korean agents were much more bureaucratic, whereas the South Korean agents seemed to be an unorganized chaos with agents standing in each others way and taking matters into their own hands. In fact, it seemed like the North Koreans were the more effective unit and that the South Koreans were a sort of international burden. This also made the South Korean agents seem much less masculine and walking contradictions as they would be on the same side, yet turn against each other or be detrimental to one another.
Jeong exemplified this contradictory character as he would become both amused and also horrified by the chaos of the circumstances he stumbles into.

Although I greatly enjoyed the film I could not help but think it was a bit cliche. It almost seemed like the film was ripped off the Bourne Supremacy with scenes showing action/espionage qualities and the character development of wrongly accused soldier turned international enemy chased by all.

  3. Berlin is a story that also contains the element of war and conflict between the two countries. It seems like it is trying to re-portray and imply North Korea's movement after Kim Jung Il died. It seems like the betrayal of Dong jong ho is implying the new arising government by Kim Jong Eun and how the inner government changed. The movie has a very intricate story plot as it shows the allies and the power struggle and business that goes around. The character of Ha jung woo is the main character and of course like every movie main characters, he is just and loyal. He has conplete faith into his government and keeps his standard. However when he gets betrayed he also has the romantic side of him to protect his wife.

The ending was extremely tragic. At the end Ryu seung bum and also Jun ji hyun both dies. It gets really emotional as it goes toward the ens.The only survivors are Ha jung woo and Han suk Kyu. When Ha jung woo has to be sent to the North Han suk kyu feels bad and helps him to hide. However, it ends with Ha jung woo trying for a revenge and ends. It really has some emotional impact as Han sukkyu feels sympathy toward Ha jung woo.
